Paving the way to success

How do you make pavement greener? AZEK Building Products, maker of the VAST line of composite masonry products, thinks it has an answer.

VAST Composite Permeable Pavers offer an alternative to concrete permeable pavers. They are made from up to 95% recycled materials such as scrap tires and plastic. (The company says their manufacture requires 82% less energy and releases 89% less carbon dioxide than concrete products.) Combined with an open-graded base, the pavers can reduce runoff-generating impervious cover and decrease the rate and quantity of runoff. And they come in a variety of colors to resemble the appearance of concrete or clay.

The company says all of those attributes could help builders earn LEED credits.

Commercial contractors may find another advantage: the pavers are slip-resistant and manufactured with spacer lugs that are engineered to maintain a precise 0.275-inch space between pavers. According to the company, this ensures that VAST Composite Permeable Pavers can be installed according to ADA Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities.

VAST offers several products for a number of applications, including permeable pavers, landscape pavers and deck pavers.

The pavers were on display during last week’s Remodeling Show in Chicago.
